Through the Roof!

The charity ‘Through the Roof’ trains and equips churches and other organisations to be inclusive of people with any form of disability. ‘Through the Roof’ publishes resource material, runs short-term overseas missions, distributes refurbished wheelchairs in developing countries and runs accessible holidays, among other programmes. TtR makes the Christian gospel accessible to all affected by disability – both disabled people and their families.

Sarah said about her sense of belonging at her church, ‘I feel alive! Valued for the disabled person I am.

At last, I feel that I am in a space where I can grow as the person God made. They have accepted me for me (without the ‘what’s wrong with you’ conversation!). They have encouraged me to use my gifts, attend training, develop prayer resources; to dare to look at possibilities.’

On the other hand, the last recorded survey suggests that 90–95% of disabled people have never heard the Gospel (Lausanne Committee for World Evangelisation, 2004). There are 14.6million disabled people in the UK who need to know churches are supportive places, sharing God’s love (Family Resources Survey, 2021).

‘Through the Roof’ invites local churches to mark Disability Awareness Sunday on 18 September 2022 (or on another Sunday of your choice, if this is inconvenient). During August, TtR can send you a service pack with:

  • Disability Awareness Sunday service ideas
  • A suggested Bible reading
  • Sermon ideas
  • Prayers
  • Children’s/youth activities
  • Supporting videos
