Singing Christmas Carols on the doorstep

Churches Together in Banners Gate, Boldmere and Wylde Green are planning a virtual Carol Service to take place at 8.00pm on Monday 21 December. While no large, church-based Carol Services are able to take place this year, the idea is to sing four Christmas Carols on the doorstep all over the North Birmingham area at the same time that evening. The vision is set out on the specially-designed ‘Doorstep Carols’ website (Accessible HERE). To resource the vision, the website features a downloadable and printable Carol sheet. The music can be played directly from the website at 8.00pm on Monday 21 December. Church members are asked to invite their neighbours in advance to listen – or to participate – from their own doorsteps. If that time and day are inconvenient, the words and music will still be available via the https://www.doorstepcarols.com website in the run-up to Christmas Day.

The costs of the initiative are being borne by Churches Together in Banners Gate, Boldmere and Wylde Green, which includes Banners Gate Community Church, Boldmere Methodist Church, Chester Road Baptist Church, Emmanuel (Wylde Green) Parish Church, North Birmingham Vineyard Church, St Columba’s (Banners Gate) Parish Church, St Michael’s (Boldmere) Parish Church, St Nicholas (Boldmere) Catholic Church and Wylde Green United Reformed Church. The group is inviting a doorstep gift to be made to the work of Acacia Family Support and the Birmingham City Mission. Individuals, families and churches intending to engage with Doorstep Carols on Monday 21 December are asked to e-mail Revd Danny Brierley, Minister of Chester Road Baptist Church, Sutton Coldfield, at THIS ADDRESS.

A similar initiative, ‘Carols on the Doorstep,’ will take place across the UK on the previous evening, Sunday 20 December, beginning at 5.30pm. At the time, 15 minutes’ of Carols will be provided by Premier Christian Radio (Accessible on DAB and at Freeview Channel 725). Information about ‘Carols on the Doorstep,’ including a printable invitation to push through neighbours’ doors and a Carol sheet, can be found via THIS LINK.
