MBE for Birmingham-based church leader

In the King’s Birthday Honours list, it has been announced that Bishop Dr Desmond Jaddoo is to become a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the Windrush Generation. As chair of the Windrush National Organisation, Desmond has worked tirelessly to challenge injustice against the people who emigrated from the Caribbean to the UK for from 1948 onwards.

Bishop Desmond, a father-of-four, is also active in community development and anti-violence campaigning. He was a prominent figure during the protests that took place in the West Midlands following the death of George Floyd in May 2020 – and in the aftermath of the murder of 14-year-old Dea-John Reid in Kingstanding on 31 May 2021. Alongside his community work, Bishop Desmond leads the ‘Vision Temple of Praise’ congregation, which meets in Newtown.
