Become a Drop-off point to help refugees cycle

The Bike Project, an award winning charity who take in second hand bikes, refurbish them and then donate them to refugees and asylum seekers living in Birmingham.

When living on only £37 a week asylum support and a bus pass in Birmingham costs £18, having a bike of their own can make a huge impact to the lives of our beneficiaries both in terms of a free mode of transport, in addition to improving wellbeing and reducing social isolation.

Founded in London in 2013, The Bike Project has donated over 5,000 bikes. The charity relies on donations of unwanted bikes, which it lovingly refurbishes before passing on to refugees, saving them money and helping them get around.

In June 2019 we launched The Bike Project in Balsall Heath, Birmingham to help meet the growing demand for our services and have seen a huge response from the migrant community, with over 150 people signing up to receive a bike in the first two weeks of our opening!

What we’re asking for is the following:

In order to meet the significant demand for bikes from refugees, we’re asking members of the local community to become drop off points for us in order to make it easier for local people to donate a bike to us throughout the West Midlands, rather than having to come to our workshop in Balsall Heath. Drop off points are usually community centres, places of worship, offices, schools or other organisations that have:

– A secure space for at least 10 bikes at a time (kept indoors or outdoors)
– A designated person on site who can coordinate bike donations and our van collections.

Many places of worship have found that as well as helping the migrant community, it can also be a great way to raise awareness and potentially bring more people into their congregation.
