Black History Month

During Black History Month, the new West Midlands Regional Racial Justice Board was celebrated at a service held at Coventry Cathedral yesterday (Sunday 6 October). This service marks a pivotal moment in the collaboration on six West Midlands Church of England dioceses, as the newly formed West Midlands Regional Racial Justice team begins its work of seeking and promoting racial justice across the region.  The Regional Racial Justice Board is supported by – and working in – the areas covered by the Dioceses of Birmingham, Coventry, Gloucester, Hereford, Lichfield and Worcester. The team of 11 members sits under the leadership of the new regional Director of Racial Justice, the Revd Dr Evie Vernon O’Brien (pictured).

The Church of England Birmingham’s Racial Justice Reference Group is inviting people to participate in two special Black History Month services:

• Choral Evensong at Birmingham (St Philip’s) Cathedral at 3.30pm on Sunday 13 October.
• A Celebration Service at St Martin in the Bullring at 4.00pm on Sunday 27 October.
