Lighthouse Church: Communications and Operations Manager (Maternity Leave Cover)

Vision for role:
As a church we are passionate about mission and communicating God’s love through actively serving
our community. This role is vital in ensuring that we continue to resource and expand our gatherings,
not just on Sundays but to ‘be the light’ throughout the week, in creative and diverse ways. We are
looking for someone who has a passion for process and a natural flair for building connections and
communicating effectively both within our existing church family and beyond. This role will support new
initiatives while also developing and encouraging existing ministries. We recognise this role is very
broad due to the rapid growth in the church. The successful applicant would therefore have the
opportunity to shape this role with their own experience and skills as we continue to grow as a church
and build a staff team to serve our vision.

Key Objectives:
As the Communications and Operations Manager, you will bring expertise and confidence that allows
you to hit the ground running. You will develop and maintain effective systems, supporting staff and
volunteers to enable Lighthouse Church to serve and reach the wider community. You will work closely
with both Lead Pastors and interact with all areas of church life and governance. You will have oversight
of operational matters, balancing the needs of various ministries and central functions. As a result, the
role has significant input into strategy and supporting decisions taken at all levels, whether by staff,
leadership team, PCC, or the Lead Pastors. On a Sunday you will bring focus and clarity so that our
exceptional volunteer teams can function effectively.

Key areas of responsibility:
• Internal Communications: Primary responsibility, working closely with the Lead Pastors, for
ensuring up-to-date information is communicated through various channels. This includes
church databases, WhatsApp broadcasts, emails, leading & setting the agenda for weekly
team meetings, leadership team meetings and other events. Also, where needed
communicating with the PCC (Parochial Church Council) and the PCC secretary.
• External Communications: Primary responsibility to produce external and church-focused
communications including the website and working in conjunction with the Lead Pastors to
produce ad hoc promotional material for events and liaising on social media content.
• Facilities: Overseeing the smooth running of the St Mary’s site and facilities,
including liaising with our administrator regarding the operations of site hires, contracts and
coordinating bookings.
• Church governance: Working closely with the Lead Pastors for planning leadership team
meetings, annual vision meetings.
• IT: Overseeing IT systems, ensuring reliable on-site IT provision, and managing
ChurchSuite (Lighthouse Church’s data management system).
• Church gatherings: Supporting existing teams and coordinating serving rotas; producing
visuals as required. Having the responsibility of being the Sunday Co-Ordinator,
troubleshooting and liaising with volunteers at each Sunday gathering.
• Project Management and calendars: Managing reporting related to specific projects,
implementing new systems, including Stats for Mission figures.
• Managing calendars: Supporting the co-ordination of Lead Pastor and Staff Team diaries.
Ensuring the church calendar (linked to our website) is up to date with all our upcoming
events and gatherings. Maintain church attendance numbers adding them to the service
book and ChurchSuite.
• Events: Coordinating major church events (e.g., Celebration Sunday, & our Christmas
community events). This includes recruiting volunteers, organising and buying food,
supplies and resources. Producing online forms (for signup) or setting up online payments.
• HR: Managing and developing recruitment, contracts, reviews, and appraisals in
collaboration with the PCC Recruitment lead, ensuring compliance with employment law
and best practice.
• People Management: Supporting the welfare, performance, and development of staff,
including planning staff team & training days as well as retreats.
• Safer recruitment: Arrange for every volunteer to go through our safer recruitment process,
liaising with team leads when new volunteers join ministry teams. As well as managing DBS
checks for all people working with children and/or vulnerable people through the church.
Keeping up-to-date records.
• Policies: Responsibility for ensuring implementation of policies and procedures, compliant
with statutory requirements, including Health & Safety, Safeguarding and First Aid.
• Finance: Liaise with the finance team when needed. Also, take responsibility for officerelated budgets (maintaining and managing budgets).
• You may be requested to do other tasks at the request of your line manager.

Person Specification & Key Skills

Essential: We’d love to find someone who is:
• Strong written and spoken communication skills
• Affinity for teamwork
• Proactive and self-motivated
• Leadership and management experience
• Great with people and high emotional intelligence
• Able to juggle a broad range of responsibilities
• High levels of computer literacy and willing to learn new programs (e.g., Churchsuite,
MailChimp, Canva, ProPresenter, Mac OS)
• Excellent time management skills with proven ability to prioritise workload
• Effective organisational and administrative skills
• Personal relationship with Jesus underpinning a lifestyle of integrity
• A full driving licence and access to a car as you’ll be required to purchase and collect things.

Desirable:
• Ability to work well under pressure, cope with frequent change and meet deadlines
• Formal Qualifications or relevant experience (Business Admin, CIPD, Copywriting)
• Understanding of general church life and organisation
• CofE parish experience or understanding

Occupational requirement:
• There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder be a practicing Christian. We

Working requirements:
• Part-time role, 22-25 hours per week.
• Required to work Sundays with a weekday off
• Attend weekly Tuesday team meeting
• Predominantly working on site.
• Occasional evenings and weekends as required with TOIL given for those
• Annual Leave – Full time equivalent is 25 days per year and 8 bank holidays, inc maximum of 8
Sundays (pro rata)
• + three additional days off between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
• + two retreat day per calendar year.

Role & Salary:
This is a post covering maternity leave for 9-12 months, serving at Lighthouse Church.
Salary would be based on the role fulfilling tiered responsibilities.
Tier 3- £13.95 per hour
Tier 4- £15.55 per hour
