Adavu

Adavu is a small charity supporting survivors of modern slavery in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Having begun as a project of the Birmingham Methodist District, two years ago Adavu became an independent charity (Number 1199391) with six members of staff. It still has a partnership arrangement with the Methodist Church, but is supported by Christians from across the city and beyond.

Modern Slavery is a complex, global crime. It impacts every aspect of a victim’s life, not just their physical freedom.  The survivors Adavu supports face financial, legal and emotional challenges alongside recovery from the physical effects of being exploited.

Freedom from slavery is just one of many steps a survivor needs to take on their journey to a new life. Adult survivors of human trafficking are particularly vulnerable to poverty, homelessness and/or re-exploitation. As well as needing practical and financial resources, survivors often lack supportive relationships and the necessary confidence, knowledge and skills to be able to take the steps they need to access help. This is where Adavu’s Aftercare support service steps in.

After six years of outstanding leadership, Adavu director Liisa Wiseman has moved on and we are pleased to have been able to appoint Dr Emil Kerekes as the new Adavu Director. Emil comes from Connection Church in Kingshurst, Solihull.

Adavu always values prayer, support and interest. Further information about Adavu’s work can be found at its website (Link HERE) and Facebook page (Link HERE).
