‘WorkCare West Midlands‘ (WWM) is a new ecumenical Christian CIO formed by the merger of ‘Coventry and Warwickshire WorkCare’ and ‘Churches and Industry Group Birmingham/Solihull.’ A Commissioning Service to acknowledge and celebrate the service of the two founding charities and to commission the chaplaincy work under the new WWM organisation will take place at 3.00 pm on Sunday 13 October at St Philips Church, Manor Road, Dorridge B93 8DX. All are welcome to attend the Commissioning Service.
New WorkCare Interim Lead Officer Lindsay Melvin (pictured) was a Chartered Accountant who at one time served as CEO of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals in Solihull. Lindsay is passionate about financial education in the workplace, is strongly opposed to payday loans and believes in fair credit for all. He is very excited about his new role as Interim Lead at WWM and has been praying for wisdom and guidance to serve God in this way. Lindsay and his paediatric consultant wife Helen attend Knowle Parish Church, where they serve as home group leaders.
WWM trains, places and supports voluntary workplace chaplains in Warwickshire, Birmingham and Solihull, often in partnership with local church outreach programmes. Workplace chaplains visit and befriend people of all faiths and none in their places of work, offering support and a confidential ‘listening ear.’ Whilst chaplains will respond positively to enquiries about their personal faith, they do not pro-actively proselytise, or set out to convert people. They do, however, seek opportunities to come alongside people in their work, as Jesus did. Chaplains follow in a long tradition of faithful love with people outside the usual boundaries of the church community. They also enrich church life by feeding their experiences of God’s ongoing gospel back into their congregations.
