Father Hudson’s Caritas

The Birmingham Roman Catholic Archdiocese’s social care agency ‘Father Hudson’s Care’ has announced a change of name to ‘Father Hudson’s Caritas‘ as of Tuesday 1 October.

Father Hudson’s Care has provided support to people in need in the Midlands since 1902. Over the 122 years of its work, it has adapted and developed to ensure that it is supporting those most in need. Father Hudson’s Care supports people of all faiths and none, guided by its values of being inclusive, welcoming of all and challenging injustice. Within the area covered by the Archdiocese of Birmingham, the resources of Father Hudson’s Caritas are dedicated to the service of the homeless, asylum seekers and refugees, people with disabilities and special needs, care of the elderly and vulnerable  young people.

The Latin word Caritas means ‘love, charity, care, concern for others.’ The term is universal and used across the world by organisations belonging to the Catholic Christian community. Father Hudson’s Care believes that adding the word Caritas into its name better reflects its role nationally and internationally, ensuring it is visible both regionally as the social care agency of the Archdiocese of Birmingham and internationally as a Caritas organisation.

Father Hudson’s Care CEO Jo Watters said, ‘The formal link with Caritas better reflects the work we do and we look forward to working closely with parishes in the coming months.’ Along with the new name, Father Hudson’s Caritas has developed the new strapline, ‘Collaborative, Inclusive, Compassionate.’
