Agapé UK’s mission Hub is relaunched.

On Wednesday 3 November, Agapé UK celebrates the relaunch of its building and community space on Newhall Street, Birmingham. The Rt Revd David Urquhart, Bishop of Birmingham, will pray God’s blessing on the Agapé UK team, its work and the ministry hub at a special gathering on that day.

The four-storey building has been completely refurbished over the last few months, to provide an excellent café area, open-plan offices and meeting rooms. The building serves as the base for Agapé’s work in the UK, with 17 team members working in and from the hub. The leaders and staff are keen that, in addition to serving their own needs, the hub will be a blessing to other Christian groups in Birmingham and are, therefore, happy to be approached with enquiries about using rooms in the building.

Agapé is a mission agency, working to the vision ‘Discovering Jesus Together.’ In pursuit of this vision, its work is focused into four streams – At home, At work, At university and Abroad. Under the heading ‘at home,’ Agapé UK aims to strengthen relationships and promote the importance of community and family life, to enhance the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of everyone in society. It supports people to build flourishing relationships and strong marriages, and to discover what it means to have a lasting relationship with Jesus. Under the heading ‘at work,’ Agapé UK equips people to confidently live and share their faith at work. It helps the UK’s workforce to learn more about their professional strengths and weaknesses, achieve a healthy work life balance and gain a sense of satisfaction and purpose at work. Under the heading ‘at university,’ Agapé UK aim to help students navigate the complexities of student life by building communities where people from all backgrounds can discover more about themselves and explore big questions about life, faith, and God. Through the ‘abroad’ stream, Agapé UK seeks to meet the needs of people around the world, working with a number of international partners and offering short-term projects to far-flung destinations, and opportunities to go overseas longer term.

Altogether Agapé UK has around 90 workers. In addition to those working in at the Newhall Street hub, another 13 operate in Birmingham, while others are ministering in London, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Manchester, Liverpool and Belfast. The vast majority of Agapé’s workers raise their own financial support, including many of the staff based in Newhall Street.

Agapé is a registered charity and member of the Evangelical Alliance. It is part of the worldwide group formerly known as ‘Campus Crusade for Christ International,’ which reaches 190 nations. Agapé is the Greek New Testament word for the unconditional love which God shows for human beings – and which God’s people are called to show to all.
