The Westminster Theological Centre (WTC) is relocating its West Midlands hub to Betel UK’s brand new facility in Chester Street, Aston, close to the Dartmouth Circus. The three West Midlands sponsoring churches are Betel Church Birmingham, Chawn Hill Church and Amblecote Christian Centre. The first students will be welcomed in September 2021.
Established in 2006, WTC is an interdenominational, charismatic, theological college, whose goal is to effect personal and community transformation by equipping and empowering people of all ages and backgrounds for leadership, mission and discipleship. It strives to achieve this goal by making rigorous, academic theology accessible to all God’s people.
Around the country, WTC currently offers part-time, accredited qualifications in theology to 200+ students per year. It works in partnership with local churches and a local Christian retreat-and-training centre, which houses a learning Hub. Courses are delivered via a blend of in-person teaching, web-based learning and video-conferencing. This enables our students to study locally around their existing commitments. Twice-yearly intensive teaching blocks, supplemented by engagement via local Hubs, such as the new one at Aston, facilitate the development of learning communities and avoid the isolation of distance learning. WTC’s degrees and certificates are validated by the University of Chester.
WTC partners with churches and networks that share its vision to provide rigorous, academically-validated, theological training. Graduate Diploma courses include ‘Church Planting and Leadership’ and ‘Kingdom Theology and Student Ministry,’ both of which combine theological study with vocational training delivered by academic practitioners. WTC students come from a wide range of church backgrounds, but most are members of charismatic streams and Pentecostal denominations.
Students benefit from support provided by dedicated Study Skills Tutors, as part of WTC’s commitment to making the courses as accessible as possible to a wide range of students, including those without formal academic qualifications. To help with finances, WTC students can apply for student loans. WTC also offers a bursary for individuals with a history of addiction and offending and a means-tested bursary for undergraduate students. The WTC curriculum upholds the equal value of all human beings and models women in leadership throughout its organisation.
