Training for Voluntary Workplace Chaplaincy

The workplace chaplaincy group ‘Churches and Industry Group Birmingham-Solihull’ (CIGB) is to run a seven-week training course for Voluntary Workplace Chaplains between September and November. Sessions will take place from 5.00pm to 7.00pm beginning on Monday 20 September and ending on Monday 8 November. The course will teach some of the core skills and strategies for workplace chaplaincy, as well as providing the opportunity to hear from existing chaplains. Attending the course is not a commitment to start chaplaincy, nor does it guarantee a chaplaincy role at the end. Rather, a discernment conversation takes place towards the end of the course. The cost of the course is £50, payable in advance, to cover the cost of materials and refreshments. More information, and a registration form, is available from Val at THIS ADDRESS.

CIGB’s voluntary chaplains support people in many workplaces across Birmingham and Solihull. Workplace chaplains act as a sign that God is engaged seven days a week, 24 hours a day in our working lives. They provide listening, careful support and help people to see that God is at work. Voluntary chaplains typically give about half a day per week to this ministry. They find the experience inspiring, reporting that chaplaincy helps them to grow their own faith, as well as helping others. CIGB chaplaincies are in places like shops, offices, fire service, transport and the local council. CIGB has been providing ecumenical workplace chaplaincy for over 40 years and has an existing team of over 50 part-time chaplains. It also organises Job Clubs to provide chaplaincy support to those who are currently unemployed. Read more about CIGB’s work HERE.
