Passion Play 2020: Request for support

Saltmine Trust have been seeking partnerships with Birmingham churches and organisations while exploring the possibility of a Birmingham Passion Play 2020.

Here is an update from Rachael Orrell, their CEO.

Following the success and impact of this year’s Birmingham Passion Pay we believe it is on God’s heart to pursue a Passion Play 2020 through a deeper partnership with local churches and organisations.

Over 2500 people witnessed the Birmingham Passion play during Holy Week in 2019. Relive its power and wonder with this short highlights video from Saltmine Theatre Company.

We believe we are stronger when we work together as God’s Witnesses to His life giving story and invitation. Theatre on the streets is inclusive of all people and a powerful instrument for God to use.

In October with 33 pledges received, we contacted Birmingham Council to enquire about the availability of Victoria Square, New Street and Bull Ring area during the week before Easter, 6th-10th April 2020.

They said they were excited to hear about the possibility, but because of planned building developments in the area for the Commonwealth Games in 2022 they were not in a position to confirm any bookings at this stage.

They therefore suggested they pencilled in ‘A Passion Play’ for that week allowing no other bookings to be provisionally taken, and have told us to contact them on Tuesday 7th January 2020 for an answer, as they believe they will then have a scheduled start date of building work.

I have a real sense that God has given us this time to enable 60 more churches/organisations to be able to confirm their support to bring the total to 100.
